Sunset is one of the best rewards in life for me. Why? Because it has healing power you can never imagine. The best part is, it’s absolutely free! It just freezes time and makes your heart stop beating (emotionally). I never get bored of witnessing this magical phenomenon which makes me feel alive and peaceful, every time I watch. Then, I thank God for giving me this breathtaking moment. I used to feel upset when I got hurt by my own expectations or just when things don’t work out as I planned, I feel lost or feel like I don’t have an interest in anything particularly. Sounds familiar? I think we all have these complicated feelings in some way, at some point in our lives. But people who know how to handle these feelings might be enlightened. There are things we can change by changing our habits, but there are things we can’t change at all.
God, grant me the serenity to accept things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
It is a serenity prayer written by the American theologian Reinhold Niebuhr. It has little to do with sunset, but I try to connect the dots. The prayer is suggesting that only if we can define the source of our problems, feelings, and pain, we will know whether we can change it or not. Then, the key to liberation is, change if you can, if not, let it be. But still, sometimes we suffer for the things that we couldn't even change. To save ourselves from this unnecessary pain, we shall know about our true selves. Recently, I feel like becoming more emotionally stable. I started listening to Indian chill, spiritual songs with which I feel a strong connection. It felt like I have found something that belongs to me and that was missing in my whole life. I started making time to know myself through reflecting on my own thoughts and actions, and reasons why I do certain things, etc. The more I know about myself and what works for me, the easier it becomes to let go of things and feel comfortable with the decisions I have made. And sunset is an essential part of all this knowing more about myself thing. Because it’s the time I feel most peaceful and content with my life. It helps to let go, it heals and it works like magic!
